Brutus, a bullmastiff residing in Northern California with his family, has a toy that holds a special place in his heart. This toy is a yellow fluffball that Brutus loves to carry around in his mouth. Despite being an avid chewer, Brutus has spared the fluffball from destruction, making it his most treasured possession. However, when his brother needs a pick-me-up, Brutus is happy to share his beloved toy to bring some joy and comfort. According to Bonnie Michalek, Brutus’ owner, the fluffball is the only toy that can withstand Brutus’ destructive tendencies.
Brutus may have a tendency to tear apart his playthings, but when it comes to loyalty and gentleness, he reigns supreme as a furry companion.
Bonnie Michalek and her spouse have been taking care of Brutus since 2016, when they finally had a spacious house suitable for a large breed like him. According to Michalek, Brutus is like their first child.
Michalek can now proudly claim the title of being the first to have given birth to their first human child as her son, Kayden, arrived 11 weeks ago.
The Michalek family was not worried about how their dog, Brutus, would react to the arrival of their new baby, Kayden. Despite the fact that this was a new experience for everyone, they were confident that Brutus would get along well with the baby. According to Michalek, Brutus has always been fond of children and becomes excited whenever he hears kids playing outside. Interestingly, Brutus seemed to know that the family was expecting a new member even before the Michaleks realized it themselves.
Michalek shared that Brutus had an intuition about her pregnancy even before she realized it. According to her, the dog would refuse to stay in his crate on nights when her husband was at work, and even when she made it more spacious, he still wanted to be close to her. Although Michalek initially thought that Brutus was just misbehaving, she later realized that he was trying to safeguard her. Because Brutus was very attached to her, Michalek made sure to involve him in the preparations for the arrival of their baby, Kayden.
When Kayden was born, Bonnie’s dog Brutus went to stay with her parents. Once his family came to take him home, Bonnie knew that Brutus, who is quite attached to her, would need some alone time with her before meeting the new baby. “I made sure to give him some attention,” said Michalek. After that, she let Brutus in to see Kayden. “Brutus didn’t even care about my husband, he went straight to Kayden to give him kisses and snuggle with him.”
Since their initial encounter, Brutus has been constantly watching over Kayden. As soon as he hears Kayden weeping, Brutus feels the need to lend a helping hand. He began to carry his highly cherished fluffy toy to Kayden in an attempt to comfort him. According to Michalek, Brutus makes sure to grab his most loved plaything to offer it to Kayden during times of distress.
Brutus finds comfort in the fluffy pet, and he thinks it could have the same effect on his younger sibling. Although Brutus knows that milk is more effective, he decides not to share this information with his brother.
The Michalek family is eagerly anticipating their future adventures with Kayden. They often spend their summers at a cabin, where they enjoy hiking and watching their beloved puppy, Brutus, run around. Michalek reminisces about her own childhood trips to the cabin and is thrilled to have Kayden join in on the fun.
Since Kayden’s arrival, there has been a lot of learning and development among us. Brutus recently discovered that apart from his fluffy playmate, there are several types of toys out there that aren’t even meant for dogs. Nevertheless, we hope that Kayden will reciprocate this gesture by sharing his toys with Brutus.
